Humpty Dumpty Had a Great Fall

Note to self- do not carry Lana and a pile of clothes down the stairs at the same time, especially while 12 weeks pregnant. Because I did just that yesterday morning and fell down my stairs. We've lived here for over 4 years and I've never fallen down the stairs before, then I did in the worst of conditions. And it hurt! Lana was perfectly fine since I took the blunt of the fall in an effort to make sure she was okay by pulling her in front of me while I slid down on my elbows, tailbone, and hip. But after a crying call to my OB I had to get over to the ER to have "inside baby" checked out. Of course Neil was in meetings until 3pm and in my panic everyone else I could think to call was not answering. So I had to have Neil pulled from his meeting by a co-worker to meet me at the ER where we hurried in to...wait. And wait. And wait. And wait some more. Seriously. Neil dropped the kids off with Landen's old daycare and went back to work while I waited. Finally I got in to see the nurse practitioner who tells me: "Normally we'd do an x-ray to check for fractures, but you're pregnant so we can't. And normally we'd give you something for the pain, but you're pregnant so we can't. And even if you did have a fracture, which from the swelling it looks like you do, we can't put a cast on your butt. So use a donut pillow, ice packs, and take Tylenol as little as possible for the pain."

Fantastic right? After this I was taken to get an ultrasound to check the baby's heart rate which was hard to get since our baby is apparently a dancer and would not sit still. He or she was moving all over. The baby measured a bit bigger than expected and after a few different technicians came in to try we finally got a reading on the baby's heart rate which was perfect. My cervix was still completely closed and all looks as it should- healthy and thriving. It was nice to see how big the baby is getting and get a glimpse of a little face, fingers, and feet. Much different than our last ultrasound.

So in the end at least everyone is okay with the exception of my broken tush which hurts more today than yesterday. :( I'm gonna go cuddle up with an ice pack...and I'll try to be more careful.

Silly Faces

Lana has been making some pretty silly faces lately. They are so hard to get on camera because she just makes them for a few seconds when we are least expecting it. But after a few weeks we have managed to capture a couple of them.

She has been making this face a lot! She does it when she is concentrating or just being silly. But she refuses to do it when we ask her too. Stinker. And yes those are curlers in her hair. She found them in my mom's bathroom and somehow knew exactly what they were for, then insisted on wearing them.

This face happens when she is in the best of Lana moods and we tell her to smile for the camera. She can not possibly smile harder than this...

And speaking of faces, here's a good one for ya...

The "Perfect" Husband...

...or so he likes to think. This past week together has given Neil and I many laughs and good times together. Along with those laughs and good times have come....other kinds of moments. These two little snippets of our conversations just had to be added to my blog so we can look back on them when we are old and gray at laugh at Neil's expense.

Snippet number 1:
Melissa: Neil, you really need to try to be more sympathetic and understanding with me since I've been feeling so sick lately. I really hate feeling nauseous all the time and these dumb nausea meds make me so tired.
Neil: And b!tchy. That's really a bad side effect.
Melissa: Now see that was neither sympathetic or understanding.

Snippet number 2:
Neil and I were trying to decide how we would juggle getting the house prepped for an open house when I had to work all weekend and my nausea was in high gear. I came up with a solution that I explained in detail...
Melissa: "...okay. So that's the plan."
Neil: "Cool- I wasn't listening. Thought I should add that since I think I just missed something important."

See what I put up with. 'Till death do us part, right? It's gonna be a long life. ;)

Last Hoorah of Summer

Neil took off all of last week to spend time with me and the littles before his fall Masters classes begin and we start to see less and less of him. The week went perfectly (if you don't count my extreme morning sickness that hits me in the evening). We had a "stay-cation" that included a nights stay in St. Louis. It was so much fun for all of us.

The first day in St. Louis we visited the Magic House which is a children's museum much like the one we have here locally but about 100 times better. The kids were constantly entertained by something or engaged in some kind of activity from the moment we walked in to when we left with new goodies in hand. I highly recommend anyone with children to visit this place. Oh if I were payed for plugging businesses on here I'd be rich.
My little Pianist hard at work making music...

Landen loved this Jack and the Beanstalk climber and slide...

Creating works of art...I got way more into this than the kids did.

She is definitely my child. She collected all of the bunnies on the display, sat next to them...

...and then gave me her "Cheese" face...

President Landen! Thanks for voting for him...

Lana had to try too. The buttons were more fun than taking calls.

Look even Neil and I had fun being kids for a day too!

The Magic House was followed by a visit to the Arch which Landen kept referring to as the "March." The kids thought it was fun but I could have done without the little tiny, did I mention super small, egg shaped elevator that we had to take to get to the top.

That evening we had dinner on the Landing and took a really great horse and carriage ride back our hotel.

Landen took this picture and we thought it came out pretty funny. It looks like Neil is getting scooped up by a giant fork...

The horse, Rocky, was so funny. Whenever the camera flashed he would turn and pose for a picture. Too funny. I was able to catch him once with his posing look.

I admit it...he's stolen my heart.

The next day we decided to skip the St. Louis Zoo since Landen isn't all that into zoos and we've been to a few this summer already. Here's what I mean. It usually goes something like this...

Me: Look Landen...LIONS! (with tons of enthusiam)
Landen: Oh yeah. Cool. (with no enthusiam) Can I have a snow cone?! (with lots of enthusiasm)

Anyway...Neil found this place called Grants Farm that is run by Anheuser-Busch. It ended up being better than we could have hoped for. I was expecting a farm...you know...pigs, cows, chickens, etc. But this place had that and much more. It started with a trolley ride through their land where all kinds of animals were running wild. Mustangs, buffalo, deer and such. They got close enough to the trolley that you could reach out and touch them if you wanted to...but they advised against it since the animals were all wild and untrained. Then we got to this park area that had a pygmy goat pen that you could feed bottles of milk. An activity that we all enjoyed. Plus a carousel, animal shows, and a ton of other animals that most were close enough for us to pet and feed. There was a beer garden that had free beer for the adults, yummy food for the kids and Dippin' Dots for me. Did I mention it was free to get in?! Yeah...awesome! Really a great day with perfect weather.

I started to feel really sick after the farm so we headed to dinner. We were very excited to find an Oyster Bar that we had heard great things about. Well we found it and it was a Dive! Bad! Not good. Scary looking. Seriously looked like a run down place out of the ghetto...oh wait it was in the ghetto. I was afraid to eat there in fear of walking out with food poisoning. Something I really don't need right now. So we dined at Landen's favorite place...Hooters! Parents of the year right here. Our kid asks for the place by name. For the food...really I swear.
After that I felt really sick and sleepy thanks to my nausea meds that cause severe drowsiness. So we made a quick stop at a fountain for the kids to play in while I pouted on the side that I wanted to leave. Here are the kids and Neil having fun...I'll spare you how I looked at this point.

Neil then drove us the 3 hours home. The kids slept the whole way. I slept about halfway through too. :) Aside from our stay in St. Louis we did a lot of relaxing and shopping.
And no family week would be complete without a trip to Chuck-e-Cheese.

I love this picture. Doesn't Lana look appalled that her date brought his dog AND is making her drive? Haha!

Neil starts class tonight. Boo. But it sure was fun to have him home! Miss you already, Love!

Baby Ryan

My sister, Gaby, and my brother-in-law, Armando, welcomed a handsome baby boy Aug. 3rd. Neil, the kids, and I drove up to my hometown to meet our new family member this past weekend. Ryan is so small and so adorable. He has a perfectly round little head, kissable chubby cheeks (I know I tested them out a whole bunch), and sweet smelling baby breath. Ahhh...I miss cuddling a newborn! I just couldn't get enough of him! We came home last night and I miss him terribly already. Photo time!

Sweet Baby Ryan...

Baby Ryan became quite tired of picture time...

Happy 1 week birthday baby Ryan! We love you so so much!

Lana's Very First Haircut!

It was really more just a trimming of her bangs. We of course could not cut a single one of her beautiful curls! Plus her hair is growing nice and evenly. Anyway, being the girly girl that she is Lana does love wearing bows in her hair to tame her curly-q's, but she also loves taking them out often leaving our poor girl with her bangs in her eyes. So at almost 20 months old she made her first trip to the salon.

Our shaggy sweet girl before...

During...(She made this face most of the time.)

And after...

Our little doll looking adorable...

Doesn't she look like a big girl? Insert big sigh here.
